New Sounds on Fool's Day

April fool's day has yielded some new additions to the collection - norman johnson and the showmen is a Northern Soul favourite,i have recently been thinning out the soul 45's but something of this quality needs to stay !! Also bagged a nice Uk Stereo issue of the first Doors album,i reckon these guys get overlooked far too much, they certainly had their moments - think we might have to check out the back catalogue again very soon...and also got a nice John Fahey album for more chilled times !!

Welcome to my world - won't you come on in?

4 days in Krakow, late March 2010 - a great city and being a collector of all things vinyl i quickly immersed myself in all things Polish, lets not forget Czech,Hungarian and sounds from the former DDR turn up here too.

I was first introduced to the marvels of Polish music by a compilation of singles and album tracks by the Novi Singers, kind of like the Swingle Singers but with a warmness and a slight oddness that totally appealed to me,vocal jazz that incorporates bossa, psych and lounge grooves and started me on a journey looking for the original records - about 10 years ago albums such as 'Torpedo' had hit a peak pricewise and E-Bay was awash with over the top descriptions and extortionate prices for original copies,i was chuffed to find two copies for a round £5-00 each in a bookshop in Prague,it also got a release there on the Supraphon label with a different sleeve - for a taste of the Novi's sound check this out :

Neat and timeless sounds - and very very European !!
